2004: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below

André 3000

Everyone said he was gracious if someone said something, but he really just seemed to be doing it for himself. André 3000 is one of the greatest rappers to ever grace a microphone. He is, of course, one half of the Grammy winning rap group Outkast. Between the years of 1995 and 2006, He and his partner Big Boi released some of the most iconic rap records of all time.

However, he certainly hasn’t been twiddling his thumbs with new music coming down the pipeline. Now, 17 years after becoming a solo act, André is gearing up to share some new music. On Nov. 14, 2023, he announced a brand-new solo album entitled New Blue Sun. The album is set to be released on Nov. 24.

André’s verse seems to tackle his mental health struggles, with the OutKast rapper reflecting on feeling trapped by pessimistic thoughts. I love André 3000, and I think he’ll continue to make music for years to come, but I’m not sure if we’ll ever get another album drug addiction of him rapping. Late last year André released an album called New Blue Sun. It’s an ambient spiritual jazz record where André plays the flute, and does not rap. Well, he’s done some acting, made a cartoon show and won a very big deal fashion design award for his line Benjamin Bixby. And maybe once or twice a year he records a perfect guest verse on someone else’s song.

Em once told “VIBE” that he had to relearn how to record music sober. Eminem has been sober since April of 2008. In his younger years, Eminem had a serious pill-popping addiction, something which is generally well-known if you’re a fan of the MC.

My breakup coincided with Future’s breakup with Ciara. The highlight of my day was coming home, rolling up a few blunts, and playing songs like “Hardly” and “Codeine Crazy” as my room filled with smoke. Numbness spread from my fingers to my neck like the viscous skin of Venom. Choked with grief, I could only move the blunt to and from my lips like a robotic arm.
